Dear Friends,

As fall arrives, we at New College Berkeley are celebrating the last term of our 30th anniversary year, which has been a time of remembrance and rejoicing. We have seen our affiliation with the Graduate Theological Union renewed, and have been invigorated by the fine teaching and occasions for celebration throughout the year.

Among our many fall offerings are two full semester courses that can be taken for GTU credit. "Theology of the Hebrew Scriptures" is begin offered in response to the many people we've heard ask "Is the God of the Old Testament different from the God of the New?" Come and find out.

Again we are offering "Para-Professional Counseling I," co-sponsored by the First Presbyterian Church of Berkeley (a pioneer in church-based counseling by trained nonprofessionals). A number of people took the year-long sequence last year, received certificates, and are now listening more skillfully to others in a variety of settings.

God attends to us, and calls us to listen. We listen to God and to others, and we are shaped by those practices. Our actions depend on our listening, as well as on our willingness to respond. Again this fall we co-sponsor an international conference on an issue of great social concern, focusing on the worldwide HIV / AIDS epidemic. We hope to listen to those who know about this, and be shaped and moved by what we learn.

We at NCB wish you the best of blessings as you enter the fall season of 2007.

                                                                                                                                                                                  Sincerely, in Christ,
