Spiritual Memoirs typewrite

Writing & reading spiritual memoirs

with Sharon Gallagher, MTS, editor of Radix magazine

This is a class for those who enjoy reading spiritual memoirs and would like to write their own "soul" stories. Each week of this class will feature readings from important spiritual writers with invitations to write personal responses to the themes. The class will involve writing weekly life stories and listening to the responses of others in the class. At the end of the class, students will be asked to review their stories and write a longer "memoir" integrating themes from their lives. This will be a semester-long class in small group format led by Sharon Gallagher, MTS. As editor of Radix magazine, Sharon has nurtured many writers. She is professor of Christianity and the Media at New College Berkeley. The class will encourage shaping our personal stories in ways that help us see our lives as spiritual journeys.

  • Pacific School of Religion, 1798 Scenic Drive, Berkeley / H-133

hearing from god: a contemplative advent retreat

with Susan Phillips, PhD

We extend to you this invitation, in the words of South African minister, politician, and anti-apartheid activist Allan Boesak: So let us enter Advent in hope, even hope against hope. Let us see visions of love and peace and justice. let us affirm with humility, with joy, with faith, with courage: Jesus Christ–the life of the world.

Even when our lives and the world seem tumultuous, God invites us to enter the Advent hope that Jesus Christ is with us today, as well as yesterday and tomorrow. Join us in a quiet retreat focused on noticing how you hear God and receive that hope in your own life.
